On January 15, 2025, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Chen Honghe met with Tan Wangeng, the director of Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China Ltd. (COMAC), in Hanoi. A statement released by the Vietnamese government after the meeting stated that Chen instructed the Ministry of Transport to reexamine existing regulations and propose amendments based on actual circumstances to eliminate regulatory barriers, allowing COMAC aircraft to operate in Vietnam in the future. Chen also mentioned that, in the initial phase, VietJet Air, the country's major private low-cost carrier, may consider collaborating with a Chinese airline operating COMAC aircraft to conduct test flights on certain routes.
What Aircraft Models Does COMAC Have?
C919 Aircraft: COMAC's first large civil aircraft, which successfully completed its maiden flight on May 5, 2017. This model is a medium-range, narrow-body, twin-engine, single-aisle design with a capacity of 162 to 190 passengers. The C919 has received more than 200 orders and has begun deliveries.
ARJ21-700 Aircraft: China's first domestically developed regional jet, which entered commercial service in 2016. This model is known for its flexibility and short takeoff and landing capabilities. It has received orders from both domestic and international airlines.
CR929 Widebody Aircraft: A long-range widebody aircraft under development by COMAC, expected to meet the demand for longer distances and international routes.
C929 Long-range Aircraft: Another long-range aircraft being developed by COMAC, aimed at meeting the needs of even longer flights and international routes.
COMAC established on May 11, 2008, in Shanghai, is the main entity responsible for China's large aircraft project under the national major aircraft initiative. It serves as the primary platform for the development of both regional and trunk-line aircraft, aiming to industrialize China's civil aviation industry.
